What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique was developed by Frederick Mathias Alexander over 100 years ago. It is a gentle self-management technique which aims to change unhelpful habits and reduce unnecessary tension in all activities of daily living. It can improve balance, mobility, confidence and self-awareness, it can lead to greater control over one’s reactions and better posture.

It is taught by a combination of explanation and discussion alongside gentle hands on guidance. It isn’t a set of exercises but a way of approaching life which can be applied in any situation. Find out about learning the Alexander Technique here.

Find out about what it is helpful for here. For more information go to the Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique.
